There are many reason that a credit/debit card payment might be declined.  In general it is better to determine the issue before attempting the transaction again.

A couple of the most common reasons payments are declined are:

  1. The billing address entered (especially the ZIP or Postal Code) does not EXACTLY match what your credit/debit card company has on file for your account.

    • This usually shows as an "AVS" (Address Verification System) error and should not be processed again, until you have contacted your credit/debit card company and confirmed the address they have on file for your account.

    • Note that even though the transaction has been declined, it likely will still show up on your account statement as "Pending".  This transaction will be automatically removed after a few days.

  2. Credit limit has been exceeded / Insufficient funds.

    • This is pretty straightforward for credit card transactions, however, debit cards can have additional limitations set on how much can be processed.  For example, most banks will have a daily, weekly, and monthly limit on how much you can charge to your debit card.  So, if you have sufficient funds in your bank account, but are getting this error message, please contact your bank to review the limits they may have in place on your account.
